Royal Mail driver caught using device while driving in Salisbury

A DELIVERY driver was caught committing a 'fatal' offence while driving along a road in Salisbury.

Wiltshire Police road officers stopped a Royal Mail driver on the A36 Southampton Road on Wednesday, August 2.

The driver was seen using a hand-held device while driving.

Taking to social media, police said the driver was issued a "special delivery" of a summons to court for the offence because they hit or exceeded 12 points on their licence.

"No signature required, return to sender is not an option," the spokesperson added.

The stop came as part of the force's Project Zero which is an operation held every Wednesday at a different location in the county.

It sees officers targeting drivers committing any of the 'fatal five' offences, including careless driving, drink and drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone and speeding.

Royal Mail has been contacted and offered a chance to comment on the incident.
